Christophe of Grey
Leathersmith/Archer
Welcome to my web site. I have posted pictures of some of the things I have made over the years. I am a member of an international organization known as the Society for Creative Anachronism. Our charter is to study and attempt to re-enact life in the Middle Ages. As such we all have personas. I actually have three.
What you see to the left is Christophe of Grey. As Christophe was the second son of the family his only chance for fortunes was to participate in the Crusdades. While there he and is brother Kastoff saved Lord Grey in a fierce battle and brought him home to the village Grey in today's Wales, England. There Christophe fell in love with Lord Grey's daughter Eleanor and married her assuming the last name of Grey. Kastoff, the third son, realizing he no longer had fortunes in England and having done well in Berber lands during the Crusades opted to return to Northern Africa to reclaim his fortunes there. He periodically visits Christophe and Eleanor in the village Grey.
'Ardno Grey is the great grandson of Christophe. As 'Ardno tends to be the black sheep of the Grey family he often wears black or very dark colors. Being much later in period than his predecessors, 'Ardno is a rapier man. Of course his prowess with blade is one major reason he is an outcast, but there are other reasons...............
All the pieces you see on this site were constructed from scratch by me, John Atkins. I recently moved to East Tennessee and have been doing leather working for about 20 years now. I have made belts, shoes, pouches, tankards, quivers, arm guards, vambraces, and all sorts of other things out of leather. Enjoy my site and go to the contact page should you desire to contact me.
