Basket Weave Stamping

The basket weave stamp is a very populare stamp.  Many law enforment officers wear belts and pouches with this stamp on it.  Of course in that case the stamping is done with a giant massive stamp.  Here we will use the individual tool to creat our pattern.

 

As with any leather stamping/tooling project begin by wetting the leather.  next scribe a line in the direction you want the basket weave to go.  In this case I scribed a line at about a 45 degree angle across the project.

 

You will also notice I scribed around the project.  The purpose of this line is to serve as the "frame" for the basket weave stamp.  That is, when I get close to it I will not make a full impression.  You'll see what this means as we progress.
