Flat Lacing
Step 1
We will be doing a three strand flat lace here. Begin by punching three lacing holes across the top of the area for the lacing. Going down each side only, no middle punch, punch holes as shown. At the bottom do not punch three holes as at the top. Due to how you will be lacing, the laces will always finish on the outside holes.
Cut three strands of lacing material at least twice the length of the finished project area. Going from back to front, then front to back, lace as shown. Leave about 1 inch of lace on the back to be secured later.
Be sure when you are passing the lace through the holes front to back that you skip holes as shown. Thus the left most lace goes through the third slot down on the right. The center lace also goes through the third hole down but on the left. The right most lace then goes through the next hole down on the left, or the fourth hole down.
