Now comes the fancy part, pass the lace under the loop created in the previous step, front to back, as shown. Sometimes it helps to not pull the loop made in the previous step real tight. You can snug it down after you complete this step.
Another trick/frustraton in lacing is making sure the lacing material stays flat as you are working it. If you allow the needle/lace to twist in your hands/fingers while working it you will have to trace down the lace to the needle after each movement to keep the right side out. In this pattern the smooth side of the lace is always out. You will develop the trick of passing the needle through the slot/loop then holding it between your index and middle fingers as you use your finger tips to pull the lacing material. As the lacing needle is flat it keeps the lace "right side up" as you work.
