Making A Knife Sheath
Including Some Fancy Lacing
Step 2
With this project I want to do an applique of lacing on the front of the sheath. The front piece was cut in the previous step then stained.
Next I punch lacing holes as shown. The trick here is as this is going to be a three strand weave, I punch three holes across the top and a single row of holes down the side, finishing with three holes at the bottom.
The next step is to cut three strands of contrasting lacing material. For a project like this cut the strands about 6 times longer than the length of the finished lacing. Now feed each lace through from the backside going back through the hole shown on the front side. The trick with this type of lacing is that the lace comes from the back, out the front, crosses, then goes into a hole two slots lower. On the backside (we'll see that in a bit) the lace then goes up to the slot skipped before and from the backside out the front. Be sure to leave 1/2 to 1 inch of lace at the start of the lacing. We will glue this down later.
The next few images will show this.
